Media and communication technologies have introduced powerful practical and conceptual tools for the Arts, and they have opened up crucial new dimensions to explore art.

Mutation of mediums, means of representation and knowledge transmission, interaction by means of our gestures and senses, the invention of new tools… deeply change the nature, the shape, the contents of artworks, and the way broadcasting and sharing them. Furthermore, it is the process of their creation and the deployment of creativity itself that are changing.

It is crucial that we provide ourselves with the means to play a part in this change. Hence, the engineer, the researcher and the artist must be involved in it together. And since new technologies open such new outlooks, the domains of technological invention, scientific discovery and artistic creation must be able to converge in a same point, within a same ‘workshop’, and why not be embodied within a same person.

Art is consubstantial to the human (at least since Neanderthal),
of each human and of the human in society, ...
it is as important as technology and science,
which fully legitimizes this emblematic and very current rapprochement between
art, science and technology.

But this formulation is weak, and desolating banality ...
because she puts the terms in a way, I would say ... passive.
It lacks the very dynamic, which is that of creation,

I reformulate therefore:
Artistic creation is a constituent part of the human,
of each human and of the human in society,
it constitutes it as much as the technological creation, the scientific creation (that is to say the creation and sharing of knowledge),
the creation and mutualisation of the material conditions of its evolution, its development and its own creation.

But I'm going a little further.
Talking about "creation" is still passive, as if the creation was a thing in itself, finally as his works once created.

It's more fundamental to talk about what makes creativity, then activity - I'll talk about creativity.

But that still is not enough because,
certainly, in creativity is the potential of creative activity,
and therefore works, and therefore their sharing, ...
but creativity is, in itself something that can be,
or not to be,
but above all who can be born, whose birth can be encouraged
(as well as that one can prevent it, ...
by negative will, or simply by ignorance or passivity, or even inadvertently).

Creativity is something that can be cultivated, developed, amplified, educated.

• But there is still a crucial link, the systemic link:
art, science, technology,
means of development, transformation, communication, sharing and mutualisation ...
co-develop.

I will now go back to the elements of texts that we have written on several occasions,
for example …

but they have profoundly transformed not only
the nature, contents, forms and conditions of reception of works, ...
but also the conditions of the process of their creation itself,
both individually and collectively.
With new technologies, the notion of a creative tool takes on a very general meaning,
but, moreover, an unprecedented phenomenon occurs, of which it is necessary to be aware, in all its scope:

⇒ the computer creation tool, while offering virgin grounds for the exercise of the creation process,
being at the same time, in essence, a tool of objectification and sharing,
makes possible the objectification of the process of creation itself, and hence its analysis and understanding, the transmission of this understanding.

⇒ Thanks to the tremendous development of contemporary technologies, the process of creation can then become the object of learning, sharing, education, ... creativity of society in and of itself.
